Freshly Rooted is Brévo Theatre’s new works development program, grounded in our commitment to community, artistic excellence, and the cultivation of new voices.
This program creates space for emerging and early-career artists to develop original work through a collaborative, process-driven environment. From script submission to workshop production, Freshly Rooted supports artists in transforming ideas into fully realized theatrical experiences.
Through mentorship, rehearsal, and public presentation, the program serves as a bridge between early development and professional production, ensuring that new stories are not only created—but sustained.
Freshly Rooted supports three key artistic communities:
Each artist enters the process at a different point but all are connected through a shared commitment to growth, collaboration, and storytelling.

Emerging and early career playwrights get the opportunity to develop their work in a supportive and professionally guided environment.
Playwrights submit original scripts for consideration. Selected works are developed through a workshop production process, allowing the play to evolve in real time.

A training and development space for emerging and early-career directors, working directly with playwrights and actors to shape the script from page to stage.
Through this process, directors:
Directors receive mentorship from Brévo’s Producing Artistic Director and a network of experienced professionals.

Through Freshly Rooted, actors:
By working alongside seasoned professionals, participants gain an intimate understanding of the discipline and work ethic required for a career in the industry.
Freshly Rooted operates on a rolling submission basis, allowing artists to apply at any time throughout the year.
Submit an original script or work-in-progress for consideration. Selected works will be invited into the program for development and workshop production.
Artists interested in participating in the development process may apply to be included in our creative pool. Selected participants will be invited to collaborate on Freshly Rooted projects as opportunities arise.
